Dec. 25th, 2008 12:53 pmI totally didn't realize that the last post was going to be as damn morose as it turned out to be.
Christmas! I have made the traditional christmas sugar cookies (snowmen and reindeer and snowflakes and ornaments and a scottie dog). I'm making potatoes and ham and broccoli salad and rolls for dinner tonight. And I've opened presents!
I got a frame and some awesome jewelry and a hat from my mom. Also a lamp - I need lamps omg. I also got an awesome blanket/shawl with pockets. IT IS NOT A SNUGGLE. Husband and I saw the commercials for that a couple of days ago, and were kinda horrified (it's a blanket armholes. I feel like I know someone who has one, and more power to you, but the commercials make it look like it's this awesome invention, but it's really a housecoat put on backwards. Although it would be nice to not have to layer a second blanket on top of the house coat...anyway). This is like a shawl made of soft blankety material with two pockets on either end. And as I walk around the house with a blanket over my shoulders most of the time anyway, it's nice to have ome with better design. And pockets.
I got some other stuff, but I'm most excited about the jewelry and the blanket with pockets.
My grandmom got me a series of bookends which I like even though it's so not my taste. I would have adored them ten years ago, and if I had a place to put them where they'd fit in, I probably would. It's two bookends, with one to go in the middle. One is a bird in a birdcage. The middle one is a cat looking over the books. The third is a cat in a birdcage. I'll let you figure out the rest.
Besides singing Christmas carols and making the candies and cookies I make every year, it's not been very Christmasy for me. I didn't watch the Charlie Brown Christmas, or the Grinch, or a Muppet Christmas Carol. I did reread the Hogfather. Plus, this was my first Christmas away from my mom.
It's not as bad as I thought it would be. but it doesn't much feel like Christmas either.
Merry Christmas, good tidings of joy, and I love you all.
