Turkey Meal!
Nov. 26th, 2009 04:02 pmHappy Thanksgiving Everyone!
I made a 11 lb. turkey - brined it, put apples and onions and herbs inside, and draped bacon on top. The bacon made for a very nice skin, but I think next year I'll do an herb butter underneath the skin instead, it makes for a more flavorful turkey. I also think that my brine was too diluted.
Homemade cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob followed. I also made pan dressing because it takes a third of the time that oven dressing does. All you do is saute the veg, add the cornbread, and add whatever stock you want. Stir until it's the correct moisture and consistency. It's crumbly and tasty. I also made easy gravy (from a can and packet) and buttered and heated some rolls.
Also: SWEET TEA! WOO!
I have a couple more minutes before I need to go to work. Yes, I'm working today. I have to be there and clocked in at 4:30. The store is open 5-9. For the love of god, Montressor, if you value my time don't go shopping today. It'll just encourage the retailers.
Hope you are all having fantastic days, whether you are with family or not!
