About Souls and Insanity

octopedingenue was wondering why, if the soul impacted Lawson, why wasn't Spike insane thanks to Dru?

I thought that maybe his insanity was going after the slayers - but she did not approve of that theory.

Thinking about it later...Drusilla was insane before she was a vampire, and it merely transitioned over with her. It is an integral part of her persona. You could also say that her insanity is in her mind, not her blood, and so it would be limited to her, and not to those she Sired. Again - Darla was not insane after Dru vamped her.
But about the soul, as a contrast. Liam had a soul. He was vamped. He became a vampire: Angelus - with no soul. He then, by means of a curse, was given a soul. Which he lost and regained several times. Old history, right?

Okay...Angelus was cursed because he was a vampire. He had done horrible things as a vampire, and had ruined the lives of the gypsies. So they gave him a human soul. His human soul. So, now he is still vampire, but has this human soul superimposed on him. Still has the instincts and desires of a vampire (remember - he wanted to kill Buffy in "Angel" (BtVS - 1.7)), but a human soul to make him care and regret that he wants that. You might say that the soul is in the blood as well as his mind.

Basically - he, as a vampire, was cursed and so his blood, as well as his entire being, contains that human soul. Therefore all vamps that he sires will have the blood of a souled vampire, but not the mind/soul.

Sigh...It's ramble-y...but I hope it makes sense.
