Now that husband knows that THIS FRIDAY is the finale, I think he wants to pick up the pace. Finally.

During the episode, husband and I would discuss who we were more upset with, Gaeta or Zarek. He said he was less upset with Gaeta, because Gaeta still had delusions of doing the right thing. I said that I preferred Zarek, because Zarek was at least honest with himself and why he was doing this and what he would do to accomplish it. By the end of the episode, I liked and felt for Gaeta again, and I cried at his death. I was upset with Gaeta because I felt like he was not being honest with himself or other about his reasons for this coup. Yes, I know he felt that he was doing the right thing, but by his insistence that Adama pay for his "aid and comfort to the enemy", Gaeta showed how obsessed he was with his own (unknown, I grant you) aid to the Cylons on New Caprica. He lost perspective. I also think that you could write an entire Shakespearean play about Gaeta starting from when he lost his leg, ending at his death. He's a very tragic figure - I do think that a large part of his issues was being driven insane by the loss of his leg and the pain in his leg. Think Lady MacBeth and her spot, but a little more proactive.

Zarek. I will miss Zarek so much. I think that Hatch played the scene after the Quorum shooting beautifully. It did not make him a monster, it did not make him power-hungry any more than he had been before. It showed him as a realist. I can understand Zarek's point of view. Hell, he's not wrong about Adama and Roslin. They're condescending and insular and uncommunicative and are trying to cherry-pick their successors and not interested in democracy. They think that they are the only ones who know what has to be done and that no one else would understand. If this wasn't their show, they'd be the villains. But it's not. Zarek is not the villain, he's the antagonist. He's trying to work with his background, with his story, in this environment that is absolute anathema to him, and he's trying to do his best. But he's also hardened and wisened and changed from the idealist of his youth to this pragmatist that knows that the only way to win is to ignore the game. So eventually he gets shot. I'm not saying that it wasn't necessary, or that he made the right call. I can, however, understand why he did the things that he did. I can almost condone them.

I officially love Baltar now. He's grown up so much.

That short scene with Kara braining the Marine and then handing Lee the gunbelt was both awesome and hot.

Lambkin getting the other Marine with a pen, also amazing. I also want his coat.

My favorite (non-tragic) moment. When Lee and Kara rescued the people in the brig, and Caprica says "I've got Hera!". Yeah you do, sister. You've been waiting for this moment for how long? I'm still a little surprised that Athena didn't wig at that comment.
