BSG Finale
Mar. 24th, 2009 10:47 amI just had to download winamp so I could listen to my BSG music as I wrote this.
Short story - when it wasn't being anvilicious, I liked it.
Longer story.
Well. I guess Kara's not half-Cylon after all. I saw Moore's comments on the fact that he didn't mean to imply anything there. I think I was looking for some sort of explanation for Kara, and being part Cylon seemed the easiest answer. Especially since I was hoping for a science explains everything, not a God explains everything. But that's the way they went, it was canon and in there from the start, so I'm not complaining.
Favorite moments:
Baltar and Caprica saying "You can see them?" Every moment with Baltar in it was a moment that rocked (for once). This particular moment was one that I've been waiting for for four seasons - totally worth the wait.
That battle sequence was awesome. My one wish for the finale was an awesome battle, and I got it. We've had hardly any of them at all this season, and they were always fantastic.
Cavil does get the best lines.
The Centurions fighting. They rock.
Head!Baltar and Head!Six in Times Square. The coda was not on of my favorite scenes, but I love watching those two walk and talk and banter.
Boomer's "Today I made a choice." Wow.
Kara and Lee's goodbye.
Anders responding to Kara's goodbye.
Baltar's appeal to Cavil. Damn.
But the three scenes that affected me the most were these:
1) Helo, Hera, and Athena walking in Africa. I was so certain that he was dead that the second I saw him I fixated on him. It was such a relief. I've liked Helo from the beginning, and always trusted his opinion. Where ever he may stand on an issue is where I stand. I was pretty certain he was going to die if for no other reason than I adored him so much. He's not my favorite character - but he's one of the rocks for me. If Helo's in the scene, I've at least got one person that I don't want to yell at. (Kara and Tigh are probably my favorites. They just need a hug! Helo comes after them, I think.)
2) Roslin and Adama's last two scenes. Nothing more need be said. I'm sure everyone out there cried as much as I did.
3) Baltar's line "I know about farming, you know." And then he cried. Just for a minute. I found him alternatingly fascinating, infuriating, tragic, evil, and human. At that moment, I felt like he had grown up. I felt proud of him. For the first time ever I wanted to give him a hug. I'm glad that his journey lead him to this point. That he can acknowledge all of his past and everything he's not done right and be forgiven for it. Be forgiven by himself as well as by Caprica. I cried along with him.
this was no the best finale I've ever seen. That honor goes to Babylon 5, which had the best damn finale ever and I cannot believe that there could ever be a better one. I think it was helped by the fact that it was an episode simply of goodbyes, and that it was written and shot before the final season was.
This episode left me with questions, just like every other episode of BSG. I feel like enough of them were answered to satisfy me (until I start reading commentary and interviews and so on). I rather liked that not everyone has a storybook ending. I liked it. Minus the anvils.

on 2009-03-24 07:14 pm (UTC)He'll probably become co-townleader with Athena. Because if Hera's the mother of the current human race, she had to replicate with someone, so completely ignroe the fact that they seemed to not be heading off with anyone else.
