Spoilers ho!
May. 1st, 2009 11:59 amThat's Hohenheim in the very first seconds of the opening. Or Slave 23, because he's in that same costume that we first saw him in (chapter 74). I guess I'm slow because I just now got it, but OMG. It shows him (in front of that alchemy circle), then his wife and kids, and then him again as his current self. And then Philosophers Stone/flames?
I was initially looking to see if the homunculus who destroyed the pipe by landing on it was Envy, but it wasn't, it was Gluttony. But man - this is way cooler.

on 2009-05-01 04:50 pm (UTC)You know, I still haven't figured out one thing about Father's plan. Why does he want to make another Stone and to open the Gate? What's his motivation?

on 2009-05-04 02:50 am (UTC)I may or may not have spent the last half hour watching the opening over and over again. It pretty much captures the entire spirit of the manga perfectly. Also, I totally noticed the Philosopher's Stone-->flames thing too! Oh, and did you notice that even though the entire song obviously fits Ed and Al best, during the beginning where they're flashing through all the important moments in Hohenheim's life, the lyrics could apply just as well to him? That was probably my favorite part of the whole thing. (I may have fallen just a little bit in love with Hohenheim during my reread. Just so you're aware.) Somebody should totally write an academic paper on the opening.
