Hurrah! Sue's been defeated once again! Now her nefarious scheme of picking something besides show tunes and giving solos to people other than the two white kids* who always get the leads is defeated! Everyone is a minority, so no one is, and now the people of color can go back to what they were doing before: backup.
*Rachel is Jewish. But Puck was Jewish, and he sided with Sue's kids, so I'm just going to go ahead and let her read as white for tonight.
Oh, and writers? "I may be a strong proud black woman, but I'm a lot more than that." Could you have made that a little more anvilicious? It didn't even feel sincere. How many scenes have you given her where she is more than the token black girl?

on 2009-10-15 08:28 pm (UTC)Jane Lynch is amazing and is the best part of the show. Her background music was "O Fortuna" this week. Amazing.
The show...I'm going to have to cut myself off one of these weeks. I'm spending a longer and longer period of time after the show being angry and ranting. The music is great, the acting is superb, but the writing is driving me up the wall. The line about everyone is a minority? Is in there. Every kid in the Glee club is in a minority because they're in Glee Club. No really.
Save yourself the pain. The characters they focus on act like douchebags or idiots most of the time and the token characters don't get enough attention or characterization even though they seem far less douchey.
Yeah, portrayal of the sexes and races is very important to me (as you can tell from most reviews I post). I'm glad that you enjoy them!
