Dec. 25th, 2009 10:35 amSo I opened all my presents last night with Matt because he's sick and has to work a full day today, which means he refuses to get up any earlier than noon so he can actually get a full night's rest. I got:
A griddle pan with panini press (!)
A pot with lid and built in strainer (!!)
A pretty silvery bracelet that kinda reminds me of something out of a Patricia McKillip book
A Digital Picture Frame (holds up to 4000 pictures)
An Annalee Christmas decoration - a cat batting at a Christmas tree with ornaments all over the ground.
Matt got me two Babylon 5 trilogies that are hard to find nowadays.
AND....a lot of candy. My traditional combination of Yorks, peppermint sticks, and Sweetarts.
Matt got geode bookends (very gorgeous) and I got him two ceramic mug-teastrainer things with the blue china pattern on them and a gift certificate to our local specialty cooking store, since I didn't know what kind of loose leaf tea to buy him.
Hope you are all having a Merry Christmas with all of your families.
flutingfrenzy, you had better be safe in that snowstorm. It's raining here.

on 2009-12-27 07:48 am (UTC)Interesting that you should bring up the snowstorm! I can't speak for more remote or rural areas, but as far as the Twin Cities were concerned, it was just more doomsday prophesying for the benefit of skittish people and easily-impressed outsiders. We got about a foot of snow, sure, but even if you don't assume that the Department of Transportation is more than equipped to handle that, which they are, the fact is that a) they never sleep; b) they have MORE incentive to take care of the roads, because people are less likely to be deterred by bad weather during the holidays; and c) the major roads and freeways aren't going to be as bad anyway, because snow doesn't stick as well on well-traveled roads (it either lands on the cars or melts from the heat of the activity around it) and people are less likely to be deterred by bad weather during the holidays. But does anybody talk about that? No. They just attempt to reschedule Christmas. One of my aunts did just that on Tuesday, and I FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT. It was actually really embarrassing, even though nobody saw except my mom and maybe the people in the cubicles around her, depending on whether I was successful at keeping my voice down. Anyway, the roads were perfect and snow-free on Thursday morning. The end.
