I have three directors who make me cry with joy every time I hear they are doing a new project. Guillermo del Toro, Christopher Nolan, and Neil Jordan. Jordan has a film coming out this summer called Ondine which looks to be based on a fairy tale that I've not read and now refuse to read until I've seen the film. Everyone knows what del Toro is up to. And Nolan has Inception coming out this summer. And he's just confirmed that he's doing Batman 3. And he's going to oversee the latest Superman reboot. The last isn't quite as exciting to me as the others, but I'm actually more interested in seeing Superman if he's in charge rather than...well, anyone else.

Also - the Deadpool movie seems to be going along at a good clip. The writers say that Ryan Reynolds checks to make sure that the script and dialogue are Deadpool-ish enough, and they admit that its very helpful as he knows Deadpool more than them. I am so excited for that movie.

Wow... really? Nolan is doing Superman?

Well, I know he is actually since I looked it up after seeing this, but still my initial honest response was the "wow, really?" thing. *G*

I'm... cautiously optimistic, I guess. Dan, like almost every other person I know, is a "Batman" person. I *like* Batman - a lot - but I love Superman. So... I don't know, I love Nolan's movies, I liked Batman Begins quite a bit (we own The Dark Knight but I haven't watched it yet but Dan said it's awesome), but I'm insanely protective of Superman and there have been a LOT of bad ideas that just barely didn't get made.

I loved Bryan Singer's take on the franchise because it retained a lot of the qualities of the Chris Reeve movies, which in turn retained a lot of the qualities I love in the comics - the whole Superman universe is so cheerfully naive and I love that. It's refreshing in the age of comic book cynicism, not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's so pervasive right now that it is why I am protective of the sort of "innocence" of Superman. I'd hate to see that darkened, but at the same time, Nolan for all his darkness makes some movies that really understand their core message, so... well, I'll trust him.

But I will miss Bryan Singer. He and I share visions (I so adored the second X-Men film, he stuck like eleventy-million geek nods into it and I got perhaps half of them, it was awesome).

Well, still and all, though. Also glad to hear he's doing another Batman, since I like comic franchises to have the same director for a minimum of three movies before I can feel like they've really had their time to shine. (One reason I'm glad Raimi did Spider-Man 3! NOT happy about the news on that franchise's reboot though.)

I need to stop writing and especially stop using parenthetical comments at the end of each paragraph. Resisting urge to add one here... NOW.
