Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, pt 1
Or the one in which Maggie Byrd is accused of murder.
As I'm writing this, I'm halfway through the second case, so this reflection post is likely to be short and sweet.
First: how awesome is it to see and play with Edgeworth again? I love his dry intellectual tone.
They've really upped the budget for the art in this game, haven't they? I mean, damn. Hopefully this means that the Ace Attorney series is seen to be a viable brand for Capcom. (Also, given the title of the game? Does that mean we get to play as the other prosecutors in the future? Franciska or Godot or Gavin?)
Gumshoe is adorable. And Gumshoe and Edgeworth together are even more adorable. Especially when Edgeworth lies to save Gumshoe's feelings.
Man, Portsman's a dick.
WINSTON PAYNE!
This walking around obstacles thing is taking some getting used to. I'm pretty much exclusively on the pads right now just for accuracy's sake (and I still missed the Steel Samurai dialogue).
I've taken to pressing each time before I start presenting evidence just because the writing is so good.
I always feel awful when I mess up as Edgeworth. He makes such horrible faces, and berates himself, and he's so smart! He shouldn't have to do that!
That being said, the most frustration I get out of the game (except for trying to figure out what I've missed in an investigation) is using the Logic system. It's the same issue as with the other Ace Attorney games though - if I'm thinking too far ahead then I make mistakes on connecting his thoughts. Jumping ahead by two leaps of logic rather than figuring out the one I need him to figure out right now.
Man, my syntax sucks in this post. Sorry,

Now, now. Maggey. It's important to spell her name correctly if you ever want to accuse her of murder.

I suspect those two volumes of manga were released in the US just so Capcom could gauge how many people there were who would buy anything, regardless of quality, just for being Ace Attorney-related. Well, I did my part.

I've always done that, for exactly that reason. Also, I'm always hoping to pick up extra knowledge of the game universe, because I'm an immersionist like that.

I know, me too! It always seems so wrong to make mistakes when playing as Edgeworth. I never want to just guess around and screw up sometimes, like when I'm playing as Phoenix or Apollo or Mia (but especially Phoenix). The nice thing about Phoenix was that he didn't care whether people saw him as smart, he just wanted to get justice for his clients. But Edgeworth seems to care about whether people think he's smart. So I'm always worried about making him look bad. I think it hits a bit close to home, you know?

I'm still eyeing those volumes of manga. I think I'm going to have to buy them, no matter how crappy they are.
Yeah, I never ever cared about messing up as Phoenix. I mean, I'd do save points and all just in case I fucked up too much, but he was too adorable when he was being berated. Edgeworth only ever gets berated by himself.
