I made my popcorn and grabbed my drink and sat down to read the last ever chapter of Full Metal Alchemist.

*sobs*

Perfect. Perfect. Perfect.

How much do I love Greed? So much. He sacrificed himself to save Ling. And called Ling and Ed his friends of his heart (is that nakama?). Oh GREEEEEED~!

I kinda expected the fight with Father to last longer.

Carbonization to charcoal. I LUV U GREED.

I wonder, since Truth/All/God/One/You gave Homunculus ironic punishment, if all of the ones who have seen Truth/All/God/One/You picked out their sacrifice/punishment. (Having finished the chapter, I do believe that it was the case that each person - at least subconsciously - picked what they were to sacrifice.)

HAHA I LAUGH AT HOMUNCULUS'S PAIN. Was he one of the arms before he was created? I wonder.

Of course Ed won't use the Stone. Of course Hohenheim-papa offers to sacrifice himself. I was a little surprised that it didn't happen, but of course Ed wouldn't do that. (AND HE CALLED HIM FATHER OH I KINDA CRIED.)

Oh everyone is so sad about Al (and so happy when he comes back). He's really the heart of it, isn't he?

Ed is brilliant and wonderful for figuring out what to sacrifice. And of course he's not going to be sad to give it up - it was ever a means to an end. People have always been more important to him.

Oh Shig.

This is why Olivia Motherfucking Armstrong is such a fine damn character. She's a superhero. This one panel might have catapulted her up to my favorite character. Yes, big bad is defeated. Yes, personal arcs are important. But there are little people who are hurting out there, and she has to save them. (Personal is not the same as important.)

I totally didn't get that General Armstrong was smuggling Scar out until she showed up at his recovery room later. I forgot about that whole wanted mass-murdering criminal thing. He's cool now, okay?

Of course Hohenheim-papa slinks away.

RAN FAN I LOVE YOU, AND LING I LOVE YOU ALMOST AS MUCH AS I LOVE GREED. ALL YOU XINGESE ARE AWESOME AS SHIT.

KNOX. MARCO. AWESOME. And naturally, Mustang can get his sight back because he hasn't limited himself like the Elric brothers. And now he can be awesome and do good things (THANK YOU MARCO YOU ROCK) and take care of his subordinates and Hawkeye can have a life beyond leading him around constantly. She can go back to guarding his back. Although I'm sure she would have been able to train Black Hayate into a hell of a seeing eye dog.

That's right you take care of the Ishvalans.

Awwww. Hohenheim-papa. Youse dead. And didn't really kinda want to be. You had a full life. I was kinda hopeful that you'd be able to live a full life with your kids, but I'm glad you died with a smile on your face. And I'm very glad that you didn't have to sacrifice your life for either of theirs, because that's an awful burden to put on your child. Good ending.

SCAR SCAR SCAR SCAR. OLIVIA MOTHERFUCKING ARMSTRONG. MILES. PERFECTION. SALVATION. REDEMPTION. TORTURE OF MUSTANG...TION. SCAAAAAAAR.

And while I'm surprised Scar lived, I find I like his storyline better for it.

Damn Al is fine.

Awww, they made Winry cry with happiness! And they stick around for a while!

DAMN OLDER AL IS FINE. HE'S OFFICIALLY HOTTER THAN ED NOW.

Ed still has scars. I love continuity.

I was going to say that the gorgeous shot of Ed on the roof surveying the countryside reminds me a lot of Ed in the first shot of the current closing sequence in FMAB. But I went to rewatch it, and I'm pretty sure that's younger!Hohenheim in that shot. Seeing how Ed never wears roughed up clothing like that, that's totally Xerxes in the background, and they show several other things relevant to him (like the entire population of Xerxes) in the next few shots. So yeah. Can't believe I didn't figure out that was Hohenheim sooner. Still a beautiful view.

Ed and Al repay their debt! I wish I knew how they did for everyone, but its not that important. I'm glad they showed Elysia and Gracia again.

Al's going to Xing, of course. I'm cool with the Al/Mei thing now that its two years in the future. She doesn't look like such a baby now.

I'm simultaneously horrified and hopeful about baby-Selim. I'm glad that Madame Bradley has something for herself. And she did love him so. I hope that baby-Selim grows up happy and good and healthy (and oh god he scares me). I honestly understand how Fuhrer Grumman (how cool is that!) kinda wants to go ahead and shoot the kid. I'm glad he's not though.

Adorkable proposal, Ed. Very smooth.

I love the new family picture. Much happier than the previous generation.

I love how Ed and Al are mimicking Father and Hohenheim in splitting up and learning all they can. But in a healthier happier way. Remaking the past.

Emperor Ling. Love it.

Mustang - brilliant idea having Ishval be the hub of travel between Xing and Amestris.

If I had wanted anything else in this chapter, it would have been a moment with Hawkeye. But I guess there was nothing that she needed to have wrapped up, really.

Perfect chapter. Wrapped it all up neatly and prettily and gave everyone a satisfying ending.

Nrgh, I want to say more, but it's late and I already talked to you anyway. (I also called [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue like I said I was going to! She reacted appropriately to every single development, especially those involving Scar!)

I love how Ed and Al are mimicking Father and Hohenheim in splitting up and learning all they can.

I caught the family photo thing, but not this. You and your parallel-noticing!

I kinda expected the fight with Father to last longer.

Seriously. "Uh...is it over already? That was anticlimactic. What are they going to do for the next 80+ pages?"

DAMN OLDER AL IS FINE. HE'S OFFICIALLY HOTTER THAN ED NOW.

QFT.

And he has a better personality. I love Ed and all, but come on.

He's really the heart of it, isn't he?

He totally always has been. It's so easy to forget, with Ed being all shiny and clappy and spazzy, but he was always Ed's motivation, and the other characters picked up on that. And they loved Al too, of course.

I totally didn't get that General Armstrong was smuggling Scar out until she showed up at his recovery room later.

I didn't notice it the first time (was in kind of a hurry), but "Won't you get court martialed for letting me live?" "I do things like that all the time," kind of wins Most Hilarious Conversation in the chapter. Coincidentally, the Most Hilarious One-Liner in the chapter is on the same page. "So once again I'm still alive." It makes me laugh every time I look at it. Also, I may have inadvertently made [livejournal.com profile] octopedingenue start shipping them when I was telling her about that scene.

DID YOU NOTICE ON THE LAST PAGE THAT THERE ARE BABY HAYATES? OH MY GOODNESS. I kind of wonder if the subtle message is, "No, Hawkeye did not go off and have babies. But since you people just LOVE your babies and won't be satisfied with an epilogue until EVERY FAMILY has them, here you go."

For some reason I saw the puppies and thought that they were Den's! Don't ask me why.

I noticed that Scar was leaving the battlefield with a towel over his head, I just for some reason thought that it was one of those funny coincidences and that the Armstrongs totally missed it. OLIVIA MOTHERFUCKING ARMSTRONG MISSES NOTHING.

I thought they were Den's until I remembered that Den's automail leg is in front, and the picture clearly shows a pair of front adult dog legs. So, by default, Hayate's. Although, why would Hayate be raising puppies? He's male. And I guess this wasn't stated explicitly, but I kind of interpreted the scene where Hawkeye and Rebecca were hanging out and Rebecca told Hawkeye to fix her up with a nice man and Hawkeye handed her Hayate as a subtle joke about Hayate being neutered. But whatever, there is a photo of puppies.

OLIVIA ARMSTRONG THINKS OF EVERYTHING. INCLUDING YOU. DOING SOMETHING THAT COULD BENEFIT HER.
