I finished Full Metal Alchemist.

I didn't cry. I was content with the ending. It didn't leave me outraged or bitter or sad. It was perfect. I feel sorry for poor Al, though. And I wonder why Envy turned into a dragon. Is there some symbolism that I'm missing?

Anyway...if anyone wants to start a full fledged discussion about it...I'm game. I'm going to read flutingfrenzy's comments about it now(ish). Sorry that I don't have anything else interesting to say....yet...but Matt just called. And I'm feeling uninspired.

Speaking of...hey, flutingfrenzy! At DragonCon (which me and Matt so have tickets for, do you want to Cosplay? You as Sloth (in full regalia) and me as Lust? We could have the cool tattoos and everything! octopedingenue could be Schieska (sp????) and if gweniveeve goes, we could con her into being Martel. And we could figure out someone for myrtlelawson. And Matt could be Pride....or something. Or we could just go as Lust and Sloth - we have the hair for both. It'd be fun!

Anyway - Full Metal Alchemist - fuckin' good show.

Eh? What is Martel like?

Martel, or Marta, physically, is not dissimilar from you. She is short and wiry, with short blondish hair. She is very passionate, confident, and determined. She is a female character, but not a dewy eyed pretty girl. She was in the military, was experimented on by the military, and is out to get her revenge. She's just a minor character, but anyone who's run across her will remember her.

Martel (or Marta, but I like Martel because it feels like a last name) is smart, snarky, badass, and very loyal. I adore her. She has stripe-marks on the side of her face and a tattoo on her shoulder; she was experimented on to fuse her genetic material with that of a snake, so she's...slinky-like *g*, and can do a Mister Fantastic boneless stretchy-type thing with her arms. She looks quite like you.

There aren't many websites or pictures of her online, since she appears late in the series in a part that hasn't aired/become popular in the U.S. yet. Here's what I could find or what screencaps I had made:

Ha, you're the only person I know who didn't cry over the ending (self included)! LOL, you toughie ;) It is indeed quite a fuckin' good show. *G*

I'm not sure about the symbolism for Envy turning into a dragon either, and I've wondered about that scene. When I first watched it I thought he'd died/been disintegrated or at least that there was the implication that he could not live on the other side of the door... then octopedingenue was like "Of all the homunculus to survive, why HIM?" and I was like "ohhhhh. Wait. I gotta rewatch that *lol*" Now I NEED him to be in the movie, like in a big way.

In my defense, it was a really weird day, and I had just spent, like, an hour crying. Hard. (I don't really want to talk about it). And the angst of FMA made me feel happier than I was.

I wasn't unmoved, but I felt very distant. Mostly. I felt like Ed seems to in the majority of the show, too numb to cry. When he was talking about Wrath crying, and he didn't, I totally identified with him.

You're going to DragonCon, then? Yayyy, a huge group! And...cosplay...am leery, but you are right that we have the hair for it and it wouldn't actually require much work. If you're serious, I'll think about it.

Re: crying. You're right; the ending was not at all sad or anything but perfect. But it was bittersweet. Also, they kept playing the Brothers song, which has trained me via Pavlovian technique to cry, and if you think I am exaggerating at all you are quite mistaken. Oh, also that song they played when Hawkeye was losing the will to live because she thought Roy was dead and then Ed was behind the gate standing in the mist and Al's armor showed up briefly.

Heh, the dragon!Envy thing confused me too. But I think it confused everybody. ("Huh? Is this actually the Spirited Away-verse? Why is Envy Haku?" And so on.) But enough about that. I would like to say for the record, in case there's anybody out there who still hasn't heard my feelings on the subject, that Roy/Hawkeye wins at pairings and Roy is absolutely adorable and surprisingly sexy! and Hawkeye is the most beautiful animated woman ever and I am soooooo her minion. And I was thrilled with the ending because suddenly it wasn't so out of the question for them to run off and get married and have three babies, the first two of whom would be girls, and the youngest a boy. (octopedingenue and I have given this some thought.) So there. In conclusion, Hawkeye = awesome.

I shed a tear when I thought that Roy was dead. And I was SOOOOO happy when he touched her hair, and smiled at her in that way, because it was so in That Way.

About the cosplay...I'm serious. Just for one day, for fun. And it so wouldn't be hard to do (which is why I'm serious).
