Actually, in a way, St. Andrews is like the Atlanta of Scotland. Because we're on the coast of the North Sea, it'll snow but then melt very quickly, and it doesn't snow here as often or as much as the surrounding areas. (Case in point: yes, it snowed last night, but it was turning into slush almost immediately and it didn't properly blanket the place anyway).
My childhood best friend, lj user sarberry, is in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and they got proper snow: being the fangirl that she is, instead of snowmen she and her friends made The Two Towers (they're quite realistic-looking!) and Jabba the Hutt.
