Does anyone else see anything wrong with this sentence?

"Miers' lack of judicial experience was not the key reason the president's supporters opposed her."

From the best I can tell, the president's supporters are supposed to be the conservatives, or the Republicans. In either case, they're not his supporters! They simply share the same party/view point as him, and often support him. The conservative members of the Senate, etc., are not there to support Bush. They're not even there to support the presidency! They are there for the sake of checks, balances, and writing law.

You know, that's the problem, really. Politicians are too bound to their party (on both sides) and so don't actually think or try to be fair.

But that's not going to change, is it?

D'oh! No, this cycle politicians seem to have gotten themselves into is definitely extremely vicious.

I was thinking that the "thing wrong with this sentence" was that it says Miers' instead of Miers's.
